What to Do in Tampico
Make your visit to Tampico, Tamaulipas the most memorable one by visiting some of the most iconic spots of this incredible city:
• Visit Miramar Beach
Located 30 minutes from the Historic Center, this is easily the most visited beach in Tampico. Visit it during those hot summer days and enjoy the local gastronomy in one of the many restaurants placed there, do some jet skiing or just take a dip in its waters.
• Explore the Carpintero Lagoon
Home to a range of local flora and fauna that includes crocodiles, iguanas, opossums, herons, ducks and turtles, the Carpintero Lagoon in Tampico is one of the city’s natural icons. You can explore it on a boat by taking one of the scheduled group tours offered in the Canal de la Cortadura.
• Walk through the Historic Center
While you’re in Tampico you can’t miss a visit to its Historic Center. The area has spots like the Plaza de Armas, with a beautiful iron kiosk known as the “pink octopus”; next to it, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, a stunning construction that blends a neoclassical and art deco style.
• Visit the Tampico’s Old Maritime Customs
It is one of Tampico’s most beautiful buildings, made of pink stone and inaugurated in 1902 during the porfiriato. Since 2004 and after a total restoration, it has been a museum and is now one of the most visited places in Tampico by both locals and foreign tourists.
